Our engagement rings are designed to be worn everyday for years to come. However, to ensure their longevity, we recommend removing your ring during the following activities:
Strenuous activities with your hands ie. (moving heavy objects, working out, gardening, ceramics etc.)
These activities can put pressure on your ring and potentially bend it out of shape. If your ring features intricate gemstone settings or delicate prongs, this may result in stones falling out.

Applying lotions, cosmetics & showering
These products can get trapped around your ring’s setting, attracting dust and potentially affecting the appearance of your stones.

Cleaning & Cooking
Cleaning solutions can contain harsh chemicals that can damage both the metal and the stones.

To keep your engagement ring looking its best, we recommend using an all-natural soft bristle toothbrush that’s specifically designated for delicate jewelry cleaning. About every six months, you can safely clean your ring at home by boiling a small pot of water and adding a few drops of mild, natural soap. Allow the mixture to cool slightly before soaking your ring for five to ten minutes. After soaking, gently brush around the setting to remove any built-up debris or dirt, then rinse thoroughly with clean water and dry it with a soft, lint-free cloth. This simple method helps maintain your ring’s brilliance without damaging the gemstone or setting.
At SHW Jewelry, we also offer professional engagement ring cleaning and maintenance. We recommend bringing your ring to our storefront every two to three years for a thorough cleaning, polishing, and a detailed inspection to check for any loose stones or wear—particularly important for prong settings, which can loosen over time. If you’re unable to visit our store in person, feel free to contact us at hello@shwjewelry.com and we’ll be happy to recommend a trusted local jeweler in your area.
Before shipping or bringing your ring to our store for repair, resizing, or cleaning, please email us in advance. Include a clear photo of the ring, the name it was purchased under, and a brief description of the service it needs. This helps us ensure faster service and accurate handling of your jewelry.
